Evaluation and improvement of the economic efficiency of welding PVC window profiles
JOINING PLASTICS - FÜGEN VON KUNSTSTOFFEN 4 (2010) [2] 96-101 Specialist Articles
Abstract:
The ”Evaluation And Improvement Of The Economic Efficiency Of Welding PVC Window Profiles” was the occasion for the research project of the same name at the SKZ (Sueddeutsches Kunststoff-Zentrum) in Würzburg. The motivation behind this project
was to be found in the long overdue adaptation of the process parameters for heated tool butt welding to the latest PVC formulations and welding machines for window profiles. Due to a significant increase in the heated tool temperature, the cycle
time of the welding process can be shortened by as much as 40 % without failing to meet the quality requirements according to the current quality guidelines while doing so. An increase in the seam strength was even obtained frequently in the direct comparison. For the industrial production of PVC windows, the results of the conducted investigations are opening up interesting possibilities for both economic and qualitative improvement.
