In this investigation, a thermal simulation model is developed for the laser transmission joining of PA 6.6 with high-alloy chromium-nickel steel in order to predict the temperature courses and the joining weld geometries. For this purpose, all the material properties are experimentally determined for the plastic. The simulation results are validated by comparing the simulated and experimentally established heat-affected zones. In this respect, it was possible to establish deviations between 2% and 30%. The deviations between the simulative and experimental results are caused by the fact that no consideration is given to the melt flow which leads to greater deviations particularly at the process points with the highest energy inputs.
