Thomas Gries, born in 1964 in Cologne, studied mechanical engineering from 1984 to 1989 and industrial engineering from 1989 to 1992 at RWTH Aachen University. The textile engineer obtained his doctorate in 1995 after working as a research assistant at the Institute of Textile Technology at RWTH Aachen University (ITA) and Chair of Textile Mechanical Engineering. Between 1997 and 2000, he worked in the fibers and textiles division of Lurgi Zimmer AG in Frankfurt a. M. as division manager. Since 2001 Thomas Gries is professor at the Chair of Textile Mechanical Engineering and director of the ITA.
