Prof. Dr.-Ing. Michael Gehde


Michael Gehde studied mechanical engineering at the University of Kassel from 1979 to 1987 and then worked there (and at the Chair of Plastics Technology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg) as a research assistant until 1993. In 1993, he received his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg with a thesis on the extrusion welding of polypropylene. After a year (1993 to 1994) as a senior engineer at the Chair of Plastics Technology in Erlangen, he took on the role of Technical Manager at Wegener GmbH, Aachen, in 1995. Between 1998 and 2004, he was active there as Managing Director Technology and Partner. In 2004, he founded Ingenieurtechnik Gehde, an engineering office for plastics processing and testing. In October 2005, he became Head of the Plastics Professorship at Chemnitz University of Technology, succeeding Prof. Mennig. In June 2006, he was then appointed university professor at Chemnitz University of Technology.

Prof. Gehde has been active in various committees and working groups of the DVS (German Welding Society) since 1984, was Chairman of Technical Committee 11 in the Research Association of the DVS from 2000 to 2005, is a member of the SKZ Advisory Board and the Association for the Promotion of Plastics Technology e.V. Paderborn. He was convenor of the European committees CEN/TC 249/SC 5 Welding and Testing of Plastics for European standardization for 8 years. He is an honorary member of the AWS (American Welding Society). He holds numerous patents on plastics processing and (plastics) mechanical engineering.
